Pinnacle Shelter Hut
Known as The Wellington Pinnacle Shelter or Pinnacle Stone Hut.
Located 20m below the summit on the northern side.
History
After Lady Franklin climbed the mountain in 1837, she asked that two huts be built to encourage women to climb the mountain. One was at the Springs and one at this location.
The current hut was built in 1843 of stone, and survived 80 years until burnt down by fire. The second hut extant today, was built by Robert Reid of the HCC in 1928 and has been re-roofed a number of times.
Construction
Heavy stone walls with a metal roof. Originally it contained a fireplace and benches. The roof was last replaced in 1991 by the HCC.
