Olaf created the first website for the Kosciuszko Huts Association (KHA) between 1999 to 2009. It was a labour of love. It took months of research, then three months, ten hours per day to build the NSW part of the site for the Kosciuszko NP, and a futher two months for the Tasmanian and Victorian sections. Since then, KHA (NSW) and VHCHA (Vic) and the MHPS (Tas) have removed much of the hut detail, and lists of huts from other States.
For this reason, we are developing a new website, with as many huts as we can find, listed NSW, Tasmania, Victoria and Queensland.
He was also one of the key instigators “the gang of four” that lobbied NSW Minister Debus, to rebuild the first huts in KNP after the 2003 fires - for the first time, they were successful and the rest is history. Now KNP has commenced re-building huts burnt in the 2020 bushfires, and VHCHA has a constant program.
With friends, he built his own hut in Tasmania, “The Scout Hut” on Mt Wellington, with seven mates commencing in 1969 when they were 15 - it still stands.
