Known as New Town Track Hut.

Located at Off the newtown walking track, which heads off the west end of Lenah Valley Road, and later joins the Old Hobartians Track, low on Mt Wellington and buried in the dry sclerophyll eucalypt forest.

History

When is a hut not a mountain hut? This simple rustic affair was built after the 1967 bushfires for the Hobart City Council (HCC) and most probably was a workers shed, and not a traditional mountain hut.

There is, or was an MFC notice inside the hut, by the Superintendent of the Recreation Department (of HCC) indicating its probable use.

Construction

This is a simple timber framed hut covered in various types of corrugated iron, some painted red and indicating previous use. There is no chimney, window or floor. The external dimensions are 2.5m x 1.85m x 1.95m. There is also no freshwater within 300m.
