King Cassilis Mine Huts

History

This hut was built for John Avery by his two sons, John and Geoffrey. John was involved in the Cassilis Mine Hydro scheme and later worked at the mine. He lived in the hut for more than 10 years, after which he moved back to Melbourne.

His son John took it over, and grandson Mark has kept the hut in good order since.

Construction

Built from horizantal logs on three sides and topped with iron. Skillion iron roof. The fireplace is brick with a metal and bush pole chimney Many other interesting fragments may be found around the hut.
